Conformity: it’s like it’s a dirty word or something. Maybe because it represents a more guttural side to ourselves. The fact that we are pack animals is something that we like to deny, but thousands of years of hunting in packs bred an instinct of conformity into us that we cannot deny.
Individuality: it’s like sainthood in some respects. It has spawned our great inventions, our great literature and our great philosophies. We strive toward it and fight the pack mentality that saved the hides of our ancestors so long ago.
If we conform, we become lost in the crowd. If we are individual, we are lonely and isolated. Which is right? Is it always a tight-rope walk between the two?

This quote is more true than it knows. Not only light, shade and perspective can make anything beautiful, knowledge and intimacy can also do so. I talked about this recently on my personal blog:
Pick Me! » Good-Looking Vs. Attractive
I talked about my grandfather, Jarvis Klem.
I recently realized that my grandfather is beautiful to a stranger:
I See Invisible People » The quotes meme
Terry participated in the quotes meme and chose a quotation from my grandfather to be one of her five quotes. Out of all the quotes we have, she chose my grandpa’s single quote to be in her top five.
I never saw an ugly thing, neither.

There have been so many times in my life when I have coveted someone else’s life. I see where someone else is and wish that I was there. I wish that my life had turned out differently or I wish my body had turned out differently.
I only know one cure for this frame of mind: gratitude.
Whenever I start wishing I was someone else, I sit down and write down all the things that are going RIGHT with my life. Sometimes I can only think of one or two at first, but if I keep at it, I eventually come to the decision that my life is actually wonderful and I wouldn’t change places with that other person afterall.
Not even to get her jean size or his salary…

If you have been feeling a little disconnected lately, it might not be psychological. It might be physical. Sometimes I feel depressed when I haven’t exercised my body enough. If you have been feeling a little out of sorts, head on over to Starling Fitness. There, I talk about eating healthy and keeping active.
You can once again start your journey toward self-awareness through the body.

This thought addresses the age old idea of karma. What you do will come back to you. Whether you believe this or not usually depends on how old you are. I have seen the severity with which what people do to the world comes back to them. If there is one thing that I have faith in, it’s this belief.
The next time you find your mind thinking bad thoughts about others, remember that what you put out there comes back to you. Move your mind to more peaceful thoughts and you will instantly feel better. Keep your mind on forgiving and peaceful thoughts and you will benefit beyond belief. Just try it and see how much differently your life flows.
