What Is My Truest Intention?

August 25th, 2005 by Laura Moncur in Motivation

This quotation is so helpful for me. Whenever I want something, I have learned to stop and think, “What do I REALLY want?” It doesn’t matter what it is, whether a new outfit or camping equipment, there is always an underlying desire underneath my desire. To find your truest intention, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do I want?

  • What do I have to do to get it?

  • How will I feel when I get it?

  • So, what I REALLY want is…

I’ll use the example of camping equipment for this:

  • What do I want? I want to get a port-a-potty and a little tent to go around it.

  • What do I have to do to get it? It costs me some money, but it will also weigh us down a little more when we go camping. Cleaning it is unpleasant and it’s just one more thing in my life to stress me out.

  • How will I feel when I get it? With the port-a-potty and the little privacy tent, we’ll be able to go camping in more remote spots. We won’t have to go camping at the campgrounds. We’ll have more privacy and we’ll be able to bond together more as a family without interruptions.

  • So, what I REALLY want is… To bond together as a family when we go camping.

Do I really need a port-a-potty to bond together with my family? No, I don’t. What I need is to set aside time on the weekends to be with my family. We don’t even need to go camping to bond together. That’s just one of the hundreds of ways that we can enjoy our lives together.

I have been doing this so long that it is almost second nature to me now. I can see the true intention behind almost every desire I have now. So many times we get caught up in our desires that we forget what we REALLY want. Take the time to find out your truest intention and the things that you strive for will be really worth it.

Wow…This is an amazing example of how the power of words can invoke deeper meaning in our lives….And to think it came with an example of buying camping equipment…This one is a keeper…
