This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and our world will follow our lead into the future.
I saw this quote on a card. I would really like to know who said it and when. I have an idea, but I do not want to corrupt the input. Please, if you know, or think you know, reply. If possible, cite your source.

Yeah, that is what I had. Do you have a link to a source where I can verify (not that I don't trust you).

This webpage says it was in one of Hitler's speeches to the Reichstag ( the German parliament building ):

Perhaps if you look up Hitler's speeches. Somebody must have put them on the internet.

Oops!
Maybe that quote was a phony.

Since Hitler had millions of Brownshirt "stormtroopers" marching in the streets before he became Chandellor in 1933, and he had the regular German Army under his control in 1934,
one wonders why he would worry about a handful of civilians with small arms.

Very interesting information. The facts seem to contradict what I previously believed.

It certainly doesn't sound like Hitler. I've read half of his Mein Kampf. He doesn't talk like that.
The word "registration" is a give away. It's modern talk. Not the kind of vocabulary Hitler used in stirring up the moronic masses.
If the quote was genuine, and a contemporary (1935) source could be found, count on it, it would be everywhere. It would be thrown in your face every day.

You have read half of Mein Kampf. Was it in German, or translated English. I worry that this is difficult to find due to the simple fact that it is translated, and hasn't had many years to be reviewed. Anyway, thanks for your input.

Mein Kanpf was written in 1925 and wouldn't contain the alleged quote.
It was in English, although I did study German in college and later ended up living in Germany for three years.
In Mein Kampf, Hitler is bombastic to the nth degree. He could not write a simple sentence. He always loaded a sentence with all the side references he could to stir the readers, his mindless followers. The purpose of the book was to convince his street gangs that they should follow him and him alone, or their cause would fail.
He wrote the book while he was in prison for nine months for an attempted coop of the Bavarian govenrment (1925). After this failure he decided to become leader of Germany by legal election. He did!

I tend to distrust any quotation with such a clear political agenda - it's too tempting for extremists on either side of a hot-button issue to put words in a famous (and usually dead) person's mouth to support their cause.
"I would have accomplished twice as much in physics if I'd had a Macintosh computer." -- Albert Einstein
"The more the government regulates the Internet, the less powerful a tool for good it becomes." -- Socrates
See how easy it is? Now all I need are some newspapers with poor fact checking to pick these up, and 50 years later they'll be considered facts...
